The Brunsfield Centre is a student lead machine shop where staff and students can work with manufacturing equipment to bring their designs to life at no charge. The space consists of a large open concept room equipped with a range of traditional machine shop equipment such as Mills, Lathes, Bandsaws, Drill Presses and even welding and fabrication tools.

To gain access to the Brunsfield Centre, uOttawa members (students or staff) must first complete training on the equipment at the Manufacturing Training Centre. Properly trained students employed by the Faculty ensure appropriate supervision and oversight during the hours of operation of the Centre. We encourage you to come talk to us about what you are trying to build and we will be happy to point you to the appropriate equipment and will help you get trained.

Think big, build bigger

The Brunsfield Centre was established in 2010 thanks to a generous donation from Tan Sri Dato' Dr Ir Gan Thian Leong, Founder and Managing Director of the Brunsfield Group of Companies headquartered in Malaysia.

Dr. Gan is a civil engineering alumnus of the Faculty; he received the Faculty’s Alumni Award of Excellence in 2008, and he was granted an honorary doctorate degree by the University at the Spring 2009 Convocation Ceremony.
